DESIGN LOVES MILANO Auction 545 - 12th of May 2020

For centuries Italy led the world as the beacon of beauty, design, architecture and art.

What no one expected in March of 2020 is for Italy to lead the world in numbers of people who passed because of a ruthless pandemic that took the world by surprise.

But when you are an Italian budding brand, loved and supported by a community of world-class designer, you fight back with what you know; design, beauty and art.

This was the essence of the invite extended by the world-famous auction house Cambi to GHIDINI1961 and Estudio Campana to join trend setter and world leaders in the design world to auction one of their most creative pieces on the 12th of May 2020 in support of LUIGI SACCO HOSPITAL IN MILAN.

The piece that was picked to represent both brands is the Jackfruit lamp.

The finished piece is made of polished brass, synonymous of elegance and preciousness.

The lamp is composed of two overlapping cylinders, with a large stem that bursts into a lampshade adorned with a thousand leaves bent by the wind. The structure of the lampshade eludes the light to create magical radiance that resembles light seeping through dense foliage of a tropical forest.

GHIDINI1961 and the Campana Brothers created two version of this piece of beauty, the entirely in brass or diffuser in brass and base in rosewood wood.

The piece donated for the auction was the entirely brass piece as it fully represents GHIDINI1961’s craftsmanship excellence in brass creation and the Campana Brothers disruptive mindset in the world of design.

The Jackfruit lamp represents Estudio Campana’s immersion in the Brazilian culture and the universal values of freedom and human dignity which GHIDINI1961 forged into reality by taming brass to represent creative chaos that is harnessed to light up our world of contemporary design.
